If you are on Ravelry it’s time to take full advantage of this powerful tool and add you stash to it!
Not only you can access a database of more than 100.000 (yeah, one hundred thousand) patterns, but also a powerful yarn database.
And the best part is that the 2 databases, patterns and yarns, are connected, so you can search patterns based on the yarn you have in your stash or see if you have in stash yarn used for a specific pattern.
In this short photo tutorial I will show you how to add yarn to your Ravelry Stash.
I strongly recommend you to have the skein or ball you are adding beside you, so you can be as precise as you can.
Go to your Notebook and choose Stash
Choose Add to stash
From now on you follow the instructions on the screen and you add as many information as you can.
I honestly found very useful in the past to add also the information regarding where and when I have bought that skein, how much I have paid.
Be sure to select yarn present in the Ravelry database (which is not at all complete with ALL the yarn in the world, but it’s pretty filled with a lot of different yarn), so the database will recognise you have that specific yarn in stash.
On the second part of the stash add, on your specific yarn page, if you scroll down you find different buttons, so you add at the same time different colorways, a new yarn and pictures. It’s better to add pictures too, so you can instantly recognise which yarn is.
Now that you stash is filled, try to look for a pattern you would like to make and go on the tab yarn ideas.
I choose as an example the most popular pattern on Raverly, the Pussycat Hat.
Do you see the second tab, just over the pattern title? Click that!
Here you can see all the different yarn used to make this pattern and you can choose to see ONLY the yarn in your stash, so you can then look at the projects made with that yarn and see if you can find useful information on yarn requirements, gauge, tips…

And if prefer pen and paper, you can download our printable to categorise your stash!
