Sara Maternini

Hi, Ciao, Salut!

I am Sara, the designer, knitter and seamstress behind La Cave à Laine and Organise your Knitting.

I am also the photographer, webmaster, customer relations specialist, social media executive, office clerk, tea maker, cat slave, Netflix master, geek resident, packaging guru, shipping lord, logistic organiser, garter stitch obsessed, IT consultant, knitting pattern writer, community manager, CEO, ultimate commander and Empress of La Cave à Laine.

When I am not on La cave à Laine business I am the mother of two bundles of joy and energy, wife to a French guy, picking lavender, discussing Downton Abbey, cooking, reading dystopian novels, watching period and / or fantasy drama, and rehearsing my master plan to take over the world one stitch at the time.

After a free childhood, punctuated by long hot summers of “dolce far niente”, I chose an Artistic High School, where I will make long lasting friends and learn the basic of architecture, drawing and color theory.

True to my calling of being a multipotentialite, I went on studying Modern History at university, ending up writing a thesis on the Role of Women During the English Civil Wars (1640-1660). Honoured with the unique possibility to enter and study at the Cambridge University Library and at the British Library (sadly, already in the new building and not on the seats where Virginia Wolf studied), I spent 6 months researching for my thesis in England, living with my future husband in a small English village filled with hills and scones.

In 2000 my great love for the Internet became a job, going through a few web agencies, some blogs, and, of course, knitting.

Happily living in Milan, between aperitivi, movies and trams, I spent 10 years falling in love with the city every day.

Since 2011 I live with my family in a thriving rural village in Southern Alsace, France. I have 2 nationalities (Italian and French), but feel at ease everywhere I go.

In summer I always have geraniums, preferably red, on my windows.

I practise daily Vipassana meditation, no matter what.

I knit too much, but not enough to knit up all my stash in this lifetime.

I watch too many television series, transporting myself to 1960’s Madison Avenue, New York, 1920’s Yorkshire, 48315.6’s Delta Quadrant or in a galaxy far, far away…

Despise being an avid reader of Russian and German classic literature in my teens, I am now into dystopian literature and detective’s novels, enjoying also knitting humor or romance.
